So the big story of the day was that Alinghi refused to sail against Team New Zealand yesterday.  They were worried that Team New Zealand might go out and try to 'tap' them and give them negative points which is possible in a collision – just ask the Greeks, Origin and Oracle about that.

The way the seeding goes here - Team New Zealand is guaranteed a berth in the finals due to the fact that it is their regatta and for all intents and purposes, they are the 'defender' in this event.   The top of the other 'challengers' coming out of the two round robins, where Team New Zealand also gets to compete gets an automatic berth in the 'challenger finals' and everyone else is racing to get that second spot in the challenger finals and hopes to win that and go on to the Final finals.  Hmmmm - this format sounds pretty much like what Alinghi has proposed for the America's Cup .... and yet they are objecting.  Ironic isn't it?
