In researching and refining my speaking topics I came across a video of legendary Oceanographer Sylvia Earle accepting an award from TED. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design and since 1984 has been organizing absolutely amazing conferences. Their web site describes TED currently this way:
"It's a community welcoming people from every discipline and culture who have just two things in common: they seek a deeper understanding of the world, and they hope to turn that understanding into a better future for us all."
This concept resonates with me. i do try to live my life with a purpose and to hold myself to a high standard. Of course it is not easy and there are ups and downs but I believe that if we all strive for "the ups" , "the downs" are more like gentle 'dips' and before you know it you are flying again.
I have not been a speaker at TED (yet) but I was lucky enough to meet Sylvia Earle quite a few years ago when she had just published another book with National Geographic. She is a very inspirational woman who is truly working for sustainable excellence. The speech is about 20 minutes long but I think worth watching so turn off the TV, turn up the volume and go to this site to watch her speech:
