True Youth Day - A SUCCESS!

August 20, 2008

We had 39 kids, 20 advisors and parents and about 12 volunteers.  The cool thing about this year is that we had quite a few repeat attendees so we are getting to see how the kids are growing up and getting to know their families.  Other things that were cool:

The weather was GREAT

All the hot dogs got eaten - well this happens every year :-)

I got a time to talk to all of the kids in small groups about finding their passion - the message of America True's Youth Days.  We talked about how lucky I was to find a passion and make that my career.  The kids offered up their current passions and ideas of what they were goign to be.  My favorite... I'm.. I'm.. I'm going to be a JELLYFISH-Fisherman!

Arne and JP get the co-honor of taking the most kids out. JP went straight through for the 4 hours without even a hot dog break and while Arne had a hot dog he also had the last two kids who went out after the end of activities and  were a piece of work.  They didn't want the day to end so much that they held onto the bridge by the old PG&E power plant and they kept paddling backwards on the way home.  I heard Arne say with a laugh in his voice - "Come-on - paddle right or someone is going swimming!" followed by  - Giggles all around.

NOW we just have to figure out a way to get a more permanent facility down at India Basin Shoreline Park.  This kind of fun and exploration should be happening every weekend!
